2012 Graduates

Janine Roche: Graduate of Fashion and Textiles course 2012

Janine1I was accepted into Visual Merchandise and Display in DIT. The course is a very practical hand’s on course, focusing on the Retail Industry with plenty of variety of career options after graduation.

I can’t begin to describe the advantage I’ve had from the knowledge I gained at Coláiste Ide. My background in Stitch, Textiles and Combined Materials has given me the confidence to experiment and the belief in the process of my work. I also think the teaching methods from the tutors at Coláiste Ide gave me a different outlook on how to approach projects. I’ve used many of the techniques I learned during my year at Coláiste Ide in some of the 3D pieces and in my window installations.

Janine2My advice to future students would be to allow yourself to explore, by this I mean take in what the tutors are saying, try to approach your work from new angles and don’t be afraid of mistakes. It’s very rare you get the chance to experiment so freely with your work in such a forgiving environment. The other thing I’d say is BE PRESENT, the more you miss the less opportunity you have to learn.
