Griffith College Fashion Show 2013

Coláiste Ide staff had the pleasure of attending this years Griffith College Fashion Show last week.  The exclusive Salon style event was very impressive and attended by well know names in Irish Fashion.

Expertise in construction and finish was evident throughout the fashion show as Griffith College Staff and students showed examples of the highest standards of design, skill and creativity. Our congratulations to all who were involved in the show on a job well done!

Ciara

We had the pleasure of catching up with several of our past graduates who are now at different stages of studying for a Fashion Degree at Griffith College. Ciara Mc Garry (above) who has just completed her first year in Griffith College was working behind the scenes at the Fashion Show which featured the results of her first year dress project.

Emma_Lamis_AmySecond years Emma Collopy, Amy Carty, Lamis Gouma  pictured above all presented impressive collections representing their years work. Margaret Salisbury who gained direct entry to second year after completing her Fashion and Textiles Portfolio Preparation Course in Coláiste Ide last June also showed her 2nd year collection, pictured below.

Final year student Chelsea Bonus,  who also gaining  direct entry to second year 2011 showcased her final collection at last Wednesday’s event.

Chelsea’s designs showed the influence of nature in subdued mystical colours and featured details panels of intricate stitch which she made with soluble fabric.

Garment construction is only one of Chelsea’s skills and she is already making a name for herself in Fashion Illustration. Her images are beautifully rendered and highly skilled and have yielded work for London Fashion Week and on line publications. Success in College Applications

Students from the Art department have been tensely awaiting results of portfolio assessments from colleges around the country for several weeks now. It’s a difficult time for applicants as the results will determine (along with FETAC examinations) which colleges students will progress to in September 2013.

Result letters began arriving a few weeks ago and Coláiste Ide is delighted to congratulate students on their success in applications to The Limerick Institute of Technology and to The National College of Art and Design and to DIT.

Congratulations to all concerned and well done on the hard work put in by students and staff. Best of luck to all those still awaiting results from other colleges.

Leonardo Da Vinci European Mobility Exchange

florence

This course gives students over the age of 18 the possibility to be selected for a Leonardo Da Vinci European mobility exchange. Ten students from the Art& Fashion Department are travelling to Florence as part of this mobility project for three weeks work placement from the 19th March to the 6th April 2013. They will be busy working in the Accademia D’Arte

This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to work in this internationally recognised Art Academy that specialises in painting, sculpture, printmaking, design, fashion design, photography and digital media. The students will participate in three cultural trips, they will visit the famous Palazzo Pitti , The Uffizi Museum and other venues that involve art/fashion. We will keep you updated on our trip as it progresses.

2012/13 Courses Now Well Underway

Art and Fashion Courses for 2012/13 are well underway for this year. The sutdents in all courses have been busy working on their drawing modules and have now started their electives.

The Art students are covering painting and the Fashion students have begun their combined materials module. Results of these modules will be posted here in the coming weeks.

The department has also been busy with the selection of a group of students who will take part in the Léargs Exchange Programme to Italy for three weeks this Easter. More information to follow on the chosen students and their preparations for their trip!

Final FETAC Assessments

The Art Department is buzzing as the end of year FETAC assessments upon us . For many students FETAC assessments are essential for progression to 3rd Level as the results convert to points that can be used for college entry.

The Art and Fashion courses are continually assessed throughout the year but all the work must be honed, perfected and presented for the final deadline. Students use check lists to make sure all the componants are in place for the assessments and with between 8 and 10 modules on each course there is lots to do!

The years hard work is coming to an end but there is still plenty to do as students prepare for the end of year Art exhibition and Fashion show. Photography workshops and finishing touches will keep everyone busy right up to the end of the year.

Embroidery

The fashion students have been working on their final pieces for their embroidery module with some spectacular results!
